Prioritizing Transferable Skills in the Undergraduate Negotiation Course

Keywords: Negotiation; Transferable Skills; Learning Goals

Abstract: This roundtable offers negotiation faculty and enthusiasts an opportunity to discuss reframing the traditional negotiation course syllabus. Often negotiation syllabi focus on negotiation skills first, and only secondarily present how these skills are applicable to general professional contexts. However, there is an opportunity for negotiation courses to emphasize the transferable skills often embedded in business school and management department learning goals as the syllabus’ main organizing principle, to make the course more practical and immediately applicable for the undergraduate population. We invite participants to help envision, develop, and critique such a syllabus.
