Making Students Feel Safe: The Student Interest Survey

Abstract: The focus of this course assignment is to make genuine connections with students that foster a psychologically safe environment so students are able to learn and engage with course topics. The Student Interest Survey asks questions about interests, motivation for taking the course, preferred name and pronouns, and what the student needs from the instructor to be successful in the class. This session will review a sample Student Interest Survey, identify ways to provide supportive feedback, and build a Student Interest Survey to suit the needs of attendees’ courses and students.
