How to Give Effective Feedback in the LMS: A Typology And Suggestions

Abstract: Feedback has always been an important component of management classes, but faculty often lack a comprehensive framework to include feedback in ways that are consistent with the learning objectives of the class. In this roundtable discussion, the organizers will (1) present a brief typology of formative, summative, and ipsative feedback and (2) engage participants in discussions about different ways to give feedback to students. We will focus more on online and hybrid classes and particularly on how functions of the learning management system and class activities make certain types of feedback more plausible and effective than others.
