Stepping Up and Leaning In: Leadership Rotation in Peer Teams

teamwork, leadership, motivation

Students’ willingness and desire to lead vary greatly. Although few would argue against the importance of leadership skill development during their business school education, not every student readily steps into a leadership role when the opportunity presents itself in a team-based project. In fact, for some students, a project “team” seems to imply that individual leadership is neither required nor desirable. Yet, this could not be further from the truth. In this session, we describe a leadership rotation exercise that requires every team member to experience the demands and satisfaction of successful leadership.
