Getting Students Excited About Strategic Management
Abstract: Many students find concepts in strategic management abstract and confusing, partly because of the varied definitions of ‘strategy’. In this session I discuss how beginning with two case analyses can help bring to life the interconnections between elements underlying a good strategy. By starting with these cases students not only begin to get a clearer idea about what strategy is but also see that the subject can be fun and exciting. They also learn how a good strategy can unravel when well-meaning but unwise changes rupture the interdependence among its elements.
