Writing Justly: Crafting Intentional Emails To Enhance Perceptions of Justice
Abstract: Employee perceptions of organizational justice influence every aspect of the workplace, from morale to productivity. Learning to recognize potential perceptions of injustice and proactively address them via transparent communication are key developmental objectives for management students. In 35-50 minutes of class time, this experiential exercise asks students to draft a rejection email that optimizes perceptions of organizational justice. Through this active learning, students apply knowledge of organizational justice and build managerial communication skills. Although originally developed for late-stage undergraduate management and organizational behavior students, variations for other levels and courses are discussed.
