Problem-Based Learning to Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Classroom and Workplace

Keywords: problem-based learning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; community engagement

Abstract: Following the 2022 MOBTS theme “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion”, an exercise is presented which enables advanced undergraduate students and graduate students to apply their conceptual and theoretical knowledge about diversity, equity, and inclusion to existing and relevant problems of organizations. Using a problem-based learning approach, students are guided by the instructor and a series of activities to identify and solve problems related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the community. Throughout a term, students gain career-relevant skills and are sensitized to persisting issues in society. Students engage with professionals to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in their communities.
