Do Your Learners Feel Included? How do You Know?

Abstract: What does it take to ensure your learners feel included in your classroom? Is it the tone in the syllabus? Maybe. Is it how you greet each learner? Maybe. Is how you assign them to project teams? According to some experts, the answer is yes. Is it your own best judgment about how you wanted to be treated when you were a learner? You might be right some of the time, but you will be wrong just as often. What if we asked the learners? That is risky because we will find out what we don’t know. At the same time, it is one way to address the classroom inclusivity question directly. Our session will allow the participants to explore this significant issue and share results from two data collections where students identified what it feels like to be included in the class.
