Improving Teacher Evaluation Ratings: Some Wisdom From The Ancients

Abstract: Drawing upon 84 years of teaching experience, we will offer tips for managing and improving teaching evaluation ratings. Teaching evaluations are deeply embedded into university culture. Because they are used for employment, merit, and promotion decisions, it is important to manage them well. We will offer tried and true techniques for managing the student composition of classes, expectations, and performance. In addition, we will offer suggestions for finding problems areas which are often hidden from the instructor and resolving them.
