Inclusion and Control: A Discussion On Developing A Collective Set of Values In Your Classroom

Abstract: In this session, participants will discuss the idea of developing a collective set of values to guide students’ learning in the classroom. Our experience suggests that teachers often rely on their personal values when leading their classes. We seek to evolve this process by including students in the creation of values to guide their learning experience. However, we recognize that instructors give up some control and influence when they include students in this process. Participants will take part in a facilitated discussion on the pros and cons of a process developed for identifying collective values in the classroom.
