The Future Is Scary!: Using Scenario Planning For Student Job Searches and Career Development

Abstract: As academics our job is not only teaching students the application of theories to improve their management skills but also providing them with tools to prepare for the “real world”. This activity is rooted in scenario planning, which is a tool widely used during an organization’s strategy development process. We apply this tool to student’s current job searches and future career development in hopes of helping students build resilience by focusing on their individual goals and plan, prepare, and evaluate the outcomes of their job searches. During this activity session, participants will engage in their own scenario planning while discussing how they can use this activity in their classes!
