Creating An Inclusive Business School; From Strategic Plan To Student Engagement

Abstract: Although many MOBTS members have a keen interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on campus, few have experiences leading, managing, and engaging in DEI activities. This PDW aims to provide personal and professional development to enhance their knowledge and skills as professors and academic managers with respect to the teaching and practice of DEI in business schools and management education. We bring together four mini workshops on: (1) Setting DEI Goals and Creating a Strategic Plan, (2) Assessing and Using Data to Drive DEI Progress, (3) Getting Students Involved in DEI Efforts, and (4) Sustaining DEI Efforts in Business Schools. The 90 minute PDW is led by established DEI leaders on campus with presenter directed activities and interactive learning and sharing. This format will enable presenters to offer advice, share experiences, and transfer skills to members interested in advancing DEI initiatives in business schools. The PDW will also help participants establish a network of DEI scholars as academic practitioners.
