Authors:
Keywords: leadership, career transitions, administration
Abstract: Leadership roles in higher education provide an opportunity that is often not well understood among faculty. This session will involve a hands-on interactive workshop on transitioning into leadership roles in academia and developing skills essential for effective academic administration. Based on management research on career transitions and leadership development, we’ll progress through discussion on direction and motivation to lead, aligning values and leadership styles, commitment in carrying out academic leadership responsibilities, and robust evaluation and continuous improvement. We’ll engage in small group discussions, examine mini case study scenarios, and reflect upon experiences to encourage practicing what we preach in moving into leadership roles and progressing in academic career journeys.
