Abstract: Utilizing classroom exercises that involve experiential learning methods can assist educators in teaching DEI-related topics that are sometimes difficult to communicate. In this Activity/Exercise Session, we offer three experiential exercises for educators looking to expand their DEI educational toolkit and gain new, engaging, and meaningful ways to teach DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) concepts and relevant topics. Some the concepts covered in these experiential exercises include mindfulness, implicit bias, self and other awareness, exclusion, and ethnocentrism. The goal of this session is to better equip and empower educators seeking tangible, hands-on exercises to teach difficult concepts, as well as those seeking to foster inclusive learning environments.
