Building The Bridge From Career To Calling: How do We Get There?

Abstract: This session addresses a question many students are asking: what to do for a living. In that question is the dilemma of working a “job” or in one’s “calling” (Wrzesniewski, McCauley, Rozin, & Schwartz, 1998). This dilemma is confronted through an exercise where students reflect on themselves, a popular celebrity who is well known for his cognitive difficulties from Parkinson’s disease, all the good and bad things that have happened to them, and how those have prepared them for certain work and life experiences.
