Abstract: This 30-minute activity will show participants how to complete a Gage R&R. Participants will conduct an experiment by completing three measurement system trials. For these trials, participants will be placed into teams to measure 10 random wooden blocks with a caliper instrument. Measurements will be recorded into a spreadsheet and analyzed. Gage R&Rs are common in industry and capture three forms of variation: appraiser, part, and gage. The three forms of variation are also present when data scientists test and train data. Lessons learned from this activity can be applied to both industry and academia. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring a laptop with Microsoft Excel.
