Beyond Cheating: Harnessing Generative AI for Deeper Learning
Generative AI tools like ChatGPT present both opportunities and challenges in higher education. While these tools can enhance learning and critical thinking, they also expose vulnerabilities in traditional assessment methods, enabling academic misconduct. This session introduces innovative strategies to redesign assessments, transforming AI from a potential threat into a tool for deeper, authentic learning. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, including identifying vulnerabilities in traditional assessments, adapting them to address AI-related challenges, and critically analyzing AI-generated responses to case studies. The session also highlights the benefits of video-based assessments in fostering accountability and meaningful engagement. Grounded in constructivist learning theory, Bloom’s taxonomy, and socio-cognitive theory, these strategies emphasize critical thinking, application, and self-regulation. Attendees will leave with practical tools to create AI-resilient assessments that promote rigorous and impactful learning outcomes, ensuring that AI supports, rather than undermines, the educational process.
