Eager to Please: The Case of Jennifer's Career Plateau

Jennifer Miller, a dedicated employee at Global Innovations Corporation (GIC), has excelled in her role as a marketing associate for the past six years. However, despite her hard work and strong track record, she was recently passed over for a managerial promotion. The underlying reason for her stagnation is that her excessive focus on helping others has hindered her own career advancement. While her willingness to assist colleagues is admirable, it has led to neglecting crucial opportunities for personal development. She has failed to take charge in leadership situations and missed chances to network with senior management. In her performance review, Jennifer was told that her tendency to prioritize team support over her own growth was a key factor in the decision.
