Introduction to Effectual Entrepreneurship with “The Blues Brothers” (1980) Film: An Experiential Learning Activity to Don’t Stop Believing
This session presents an innovative experiential learning activity for entrepreneurship education using the film "The Blues Brothers" (1980) to teach effectual entrepreneurship principles. The activity is designed for undergraduate and graduate management students, aiming to illustrate the five principles of effectuation: Bird-in-Hand, Affordable Loss, Crazy-Quilt, Lemonade, and Pilot-in-the-Plane. By analyzing specific scenes from the movie, students gain a practical understanding of effectual logic in contrast to causal approaches. The exercise includes a structured 60-minute session with film viewing, group discussions, and a class debrief. This approach enhances student engagement and provides a memorable context for grasping abstract entrepreneurial concepts for business venturing.
