“Knights of the Round Table: application for 21 century”

This experiential exercise illustrates the necessity of teamwork and information sharing within a team. It also demonstrates group dynamics and provides the opportunity to experience how team roles and structures emerge. Discussions following the activity often explore factors that enhance or diminish team effectiveness in problem-solving and achieving a common goal. Furthermore, the activity can serve as a demonstration of inter-group competition. I have used this activity with various groups of students—undergraduates, graduates, and MBA/EMBA cohorts—for nearly 20 years. Over the time, I have observed a shift in the exercise’s focus from group dynamics and team roles to broader challenges in teamwork, particularly those stemming from poor information sharing, miscommunication, or lack of motivation. Recent iterations have also highlighted over-reliance on technology, including AI, when completing tasks.
