When Is Enough, Enough? Navigating Expectations in Academia

Faculty members regularly receive requests to take on new teaching, research, and service tasks and roles. In this roundtable provocation session, we aim to provide a forum for colleagues to discuss the myriad challenges and uncertainties of our academic roles that make it so that we often find ourselves wondering: “Am I doing enough?” And, more importantly, “Am I enough?” In doing so, we hope to encourage an open dialog on the stressors we face, as well as learn about the strategies used by fellow attendees to manage situations of role overload, unclear expectations, and other academic pressures.
