Is Reading a Lost Art? We haven’t stopped “Believing” - Promoting Reading for Critical Thinking

For many students, “reading for comprehension” has been replaced with the “clip thinking” phenomenon. Despite this change, we organized this panel because we have not “stopped believing” that reading for comprehension is possible. After a brief overview of the research on reading for critical thinking and clip thinking, our diverse panel of faculty will share their methods for promoting reading and critical thinking in their courses. Participants will be engaged in a Q & A session, followed by breakout groups to brainstorm ideas for promoting reading for comprehension, increased attention and to stimulate creative approaches to improve their critical thinking skills.
