Bringing Japan to the World: Using Design to Foster Circular Creation in Bloom’s taxonomy

Bloom’s taxonomy is a classic tool by which curricular, course design, and classroom activities may be crafted intentionally for core learning outcomes. In this PDW, we show how Bloom’s classic work can be enriched by reconsidering its culminating stage “creation” through a Japanese lens, enhancing “creation” not as an end goal but as a cumulative, relational and on-going set of creative actions. Using design education principles, participants will have the opportunity to revisit their curricula, course designs and even course-level activities to consider where reshaping “creation” will enhance learning outcomes and appreciation for non-Western ways of thinking, working and learning.
