Using team charters for semester-long projects: Can they be more effective?

Semester-long team projects are common in management education. Although their benefits are well documented—particularly in helping students navigate workplace challenges—students often perceive these projects as burdensome or as a way to reduce instructor grading time. This symposium examines how team charters can be used as an intentional learning tool to redirect student attention from final outcomes to team processes. We will engage participants in discussion and share strategies for developing leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills by using team charters. Attendees will leave with practical ideas for emphasizing process-oriented learning and helping students transfer skills to future team-based projects.
