From data to growth: Using evaluations and feedback to improve teaching effectiveness

In this roundtable session, we engage participants in discussing the constructive uses of various forms of evaluations. While student evaluations of teaching (SETs) are the most common type of evaluation used in a university setting, there are many critiques thereof. We will discuss constructive uses of this overused and troubled tool, as well as other forms of evaluation that faculty can use to improve their teaching practices, including, but not limited to peer evaluation and campus teaching and learning centers. The various forms of feedback available will be examined with the goal of continuously improving faculty effectiveness in the classroom. An ultimate goal of this session is to develop a community of peer-support for faculty development.
