Lights, Camera, Learning: A Vodcast Assignment for Developing HR Competencies through Behavioral Role Modeling

Utilizing social learning theory and behavioral role modeling, we developed a series of vodcast-style interviews with industry professionals for undergraduate and graduate Human Resource Management students, both online and in person. Students watched the vodcasts weekly and then conducted their own vodcast-style interview at the end of the course based on observational learning. Pre-test and post-test results show an increase in student confidence related to all major HR competencies taught in the course. Students also gained confidence in the design and development of a personalized interview. Student and faculty feedback as well as best practices for vodcasts are discussed.
