Using KPIs in a Classroom As Organization: Connecting Classroom Experience to Real World Practice

Classroom As Organization (CAO) is an approach to experiential education that has a long history in the field of Management and Organizational Behavior (Thomas, et al, 2020). It helps students engage in and reflect on many of the behavioral dynamics that occur in “real world” organizations. However, evaluation for the grading purposes CAOs can be problematic, since students may fail to see connections to real organizations. This session describes an activity used as part of a CAO as a process for self-evaluation of the organization’s progress and as a guide to grading. I’ll describe reactions and we’ll engage in conversation around potential applications.
