Exploring And Defining The Role of Digital Balance in Management Contexts

The emergence of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence has led to widespread re-evaluation of their relevance and currency for workplace contexts. At the same time, there has been increased attention to their counter-positive effects. Specifically, how might digital technologies and artificial intelligence increase digital burnout in the workplace? How might they decrease motivation in learning? Finally, how might they further reduce social and relational skills that are critical in management contexts and which are further complicated by generational differences in expectations and use of such technologies in the workplace? The above call for the need to explore and define the role of digital balance. Specifically, how can digital technologies be moved from rapid disruption to continuity building in the workplace? Yet, this remains an understudied area both in management research and management pedagogy. In this roundtable session, we discuss what digital balance might look like in management contexts. What approaches might need to be combined with, and what questions remain? We end with key points that management educators should consider.
