Beat The Bot: An Experiential Simulation for Teaching Human–AI Collaboration, Creativity

This session introduces Beat The Bot (BTB), which is a highly structured and experiential simulation exercise designed to help learners understand how to compete and collaborate with generative AI. Instead of teaching abstract concepts, BTB guides participants through six short exercises that systematically vary the collaboration structure. It is designed for educational practitioners and doctoral students who wish to teach AI literacy, creativity, and human-machine collaborative management in a practical and evidence-based manner. The simulation is based on our Nature Human Behaviour article titled “A large-scale comparison of divergent creativity in humans and large language models,” published in 2025. Professor Dawei Wang will demonstrate the BTB process, provide a review of the issues and evaluate the options, and discuss how to adapt it according to the course objectives.
