Embedding Dynamic Case Studies in Collaborative Online International Learning

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) has increasingly become a way of developing students’ intercultural competence experientially without incurring the effort and cost of international travel. While COIL, bringing together students from institutions in two or more countries in virtual collaboration, has shown to have positive effects on students’ intercultural competence, its effectiveness is often limited by a lack of student engagement. As there is initial evidence that the use of Generative AI in class can increase student engagement, we propose a COIL design that integrates Generative AI and role play.
