Getting Real about Debriefs: Developing an actionable framework for debriefing undergraduate experiential learning activities

In this roundtable discussion we will tackle creating a framework for debriefing a single-session experiential learning activities in undergraduate classrooms. The discussion will be based on five provocations: 1. single-sessions experiential learning activities require their own debriefing framework, 2. we should abandon using Kolb’s experiential learning model, 3. debriefs are not reflections, they are an active sensemaking process, 4. debriefs should be grounded in learning research on knowledge acquisition and sensemaking, and 5. today’s undergraduate population requires special consideration.
