Teaching Students to Manage Conflict

Keywords: Conflict Management, Resolution, Bad Behaviors

Abstract: This is an in-class exercise that allows students to experience conflict within a group setting. Roles are given to group members that create conflict in order for students to gain experience in what conflict could resemble in a controlled environment. As emotions increase, biases are created and discrimination could happen. The goal is to teach students how easy it can happen and offer ways to overcome these issues. Class discussions at the end of the exercise are lively as the realization of behaviors are identified.
