Acknowledging Neurodiversity in Management Education: Improving Professional Development for Neurodivergent Management Students

Keywords: neurodiversity, student support, faculty

Abstract: Management scholars are becoming aware of the lack of current theorizing around neurodiversity at work. Alongside this awareness comes the recognition that there has been little understanding of neurodiversity within management programs in higher education, or how they may best be utilized to prepare the neurodivergent workforce. Furthermore, a critical area for illumination includes how to support neurodivergent students within management classrooms and via professional development activities. It is often unclear how to best help a neurodivergent student due to current underdiagnosis, lack of student self-awareness, and lack of self-disclosure. Regardless, as all students add value to management programs and organizations, determining the best way to effectively support them is necessary. This roundtable discussion session will explore how to best support neurodivergent students in management programs.
