How to Use Job Analysis to Create a Job Description

Keywords: job analysis, experiential learning, human resource management

Abstract: This activity is suitable for undergraduate Human Resource Management, Selection, or Compensation courses to discuss the topics of job analysis and job description. This assignment has two parts. First, all students complete a detailed job analysis questionnaire for their own (or someone else’s) job. Then, they bring the forms to class and work with their teammates to create a job description for one of the jobs that they gathered information about. This activity provides a hands-on approach of how job analysis can be conducted and how the information can be used for crafting job descriptions.
