Abstract: Academics can face distinctive challenges and conflicts when becoming managers of other academics. This is even more so when the academic is on a Teaching & Scholarship (T&S) contract track and the people that they are responsible for are Teaching & Research or Research. This professional development workshop will combine a provocation from historical literature, contemporary research and the lived experience of the presenter, to stimulate a collaborative exercise identifying clusters of challenges that T&S are experiencing or expect to experience as academic managers. Solutions to these problems will also be sought from the collective wisdom of the participant group.
