From Alarming to Alluring: Navigating the Cultural, Ethical, and Implementation Hurdles of Artificial Intelligence in Academia

Abstract: The rise of AI-powered technologies such as the GPT language model systems developed by OpenAI, Bing, and Google, have paved a transformative path in various sectors. This field still remains relatively underexplored leaving many in academia to be both intrigued by and fearful of its potential. There is little question that AI language models have the potential for radically altering the landscape of university education, particularly in business schools. This discussion aims to delve into the intricate aspects of this potential shift, analyzing its implications for pedagogy, faculty training, student learning, ethical issues, and business curricula while inciting thought-provoking dialogue and meaningful insights into the future of university education in the forthcoming era of AI.

Participants will engage in a AI negotiation simulation designed specifically for this session, followed by a discussion where we will tackle how to incorporate AI and language models into the classroom to improve teaching and learning as well as the general ethical implications of its use.
