Abstract: This roundtable presentation explores the integration of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in grading online discussion boards, addressing the prevalent issue of grading fatigue among instructors in online courses. It delves into the dual aspects of AI application in education: the benefits of reducing repetitive grading tasks and the limitations that necessitate careful consideration. The session provides insights into the pedagogical implications of employing AI grading assistants and suggests a structured timeline for implementing such technology in educational settings. Emphasis is placed on the importance of transparency and ethical governance in the use of AI to ensure its responsible deployment. The discussion culminates with an examination of how generative AI cannot only alleviate the burden of grading but also enhance the overall quality of online learning experiences by enabling educators to focus on fostering more engaging and substantive online discussions.
