BOARD GOVERNANCE AND DIVERSITY: HAS THE DECK BEEN FARILY SHUFFLED?
Abstract: While legislation has altered the structure and scope of corporate boards in the past decade, the composition of boards has remained indolent and not reflective of current population dynamics. Issues related to tenure, key committee assignments, and board selection and nomination invariably impact the performance of boards and influence board homogeneity. This experiential exercise was designed to enable students in a graduate strategy course to assess how structural components (tenure, committee assignments, industry experience) impact board diversity. Student teams assumed the role of consultants to assess structural factors that may influence board selection and board diversity.
