Keywords: Dadirri – deep listening, Place based perspectives, Reflexivity

Session Type: SoTL

Abstract

This paper reflects on a field trip experience that aimed to introduce University of Queensland Business School (UQBS) students to pedagogies of deep listening (Dadirri), place-based perspectives, and the practices of a Native Title corporation to manage the rights and interests of the Quandamooka Peoples of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Students were invited to engage in a three-day field trip experience with the goal of learning, as future business leaders, of the alternative and often competing perspectives (Western vs Indigenous) faced by First Nations peoples on Minjerribah. This paper reflects on the field trip experience, specifically, the outcomes for student learning, and the experiences of both the students and the educators who participated in this unique learning experience.
