Inside Out: Unpacking Emotions In Teamwork

Teamwork skills, especially invisible skills, are among the world's top ten employability skills. Yet, universities often neglect to equip students with essential invisible teamwork skills such as Emotional Intelligence (EI). This article provides an in-person class activity to develop students’ EI by drawing on the movie Inside Out 2. This movie offers valuable insights for developing EI as it personifies emotions, making it fun, engaging, and more straightforward for students to relate to those feelings and creating a supportive environment for candid discussions. The activity built upon Goleman’s EI framework encompasses three main phases: decoding, assessing, and sharing emotions.
