Innovate and Elevate: An Interactive Session On Repurposing Everyday Items For Undergraduate Business Students

Entrepreneurial creativity involves generating novel and valuable ideas that transform markets (Gemmell et al., 2012). Innovative entrepreneurs use these ideas to create unique products and services (Gemmell & Kolb, 2020). The introductory exercise at MOBTS OCEANIA 2025 engages undergraduate business students in a flipped classroom, team-based learning environment where they need to repurpose and reimagine a common household item. This exercise encourages entrepreneurial thinking and skill development. Students practice opportunity evaluation and pitching, learning that not all good ideas are viable opportunities. This approach aligns with entrepreneurial education research that emphasises students learn best by doing. This provides students the opportunity to collaboratively develop practical competencies through authentic and fun experiences (Chen et al., 2021; Kassean et al., 2015; Kuratko, 2005; Liguori & Winkler, 2020).
