Listen Leaders! Active Listening As A Leadership Skill (social Service Delivery Context)

Active listening is a component of effective communication that every leader must possess. This pertains to listening intently and attentively to someone who is communicating a message. In the context of social service delivery, leaders of social service institutions must practice active listening to better understand the subordinates, partners, and the community. With this, leaders will be able to grasp thoroughly the situation and challenges that stakeholders are facing. In doing so, social service interventions will be more suited to the needs of the community. This would also help the leaders to secure appropriate resources and assistance from other social service organizations. Furthermore, the exercise in this article will highlight active listening through a modified puzzle activity where the main goal is to complete the puzzle representing a social service institution.
