Roundtable Provocations: Navigating The Managerial Make-Believe World In Management and Organizational Behavior Education

This session explores how management and organizational behavior educators can address the phenomenon of the managerial make-believe world, where leadership, decision-making, and organizational culture are shaped by curated realities, performative actions, and technological mediation. Drawing on Debord’s theory of the spectacle, managerial cynicism, sociomateriality, and critical management studies, the session aims to provoke a critical discussion on how educators can foster authentic engagement and critical thinking in students. Through small group discussions and a roundtable debate, participants will explore strategies for preparing students to navigate and challenge these constructed realities, equipping them with tools for ethical and reflective leadership.
