Developing Student Skills In Critical Thinking of Ai-Produced Output: Embracing Social Loafing To Create A Carnival of Laughter For Your Classroom

Team based learning offers one way to develop student skills in critical thinking on AI produced content. But social loafing using AI tools is often straightforward via production of low-quality AI slop which undermines team learning and limits development of critical thinking skills. This exercise counterintuitively invites participants to embrace social loafing for assisting student teams develop skills in analysing AI-produced content. Leveraging a pedagogy based on Bakhtin’s (1964) notion of the carnival, participants will engage in an experiential activity designed to encourage AI slop by casting members into the role of clown, rogue, or fool and prompting laughter for viewing AI-produced content differently.
