From Teaching To Facilitation: Engaging Case Discussions With The Spark Model

Abstract: Traditional case teaching often depends on pre-set questions and group presentations, limiting spontaneity and engagement. This session introduces the SPARK model, my own facilitation framework designed to transform case teaching from static questioning into dynamic, inclusive learning. Drawing on my certification as a FINEEC facilitator and my Harvard publication on inclusive case pedagogy, participants will experience SPARK’s five stages—Setting, Proposing, Analyzing, Reaching, and Key Learnings through an interactive GreenSip Café case demonstration. Each stage features specific techniques that enhance engagement, inclusivity, and critical thinking, providing educators with practical, replicable tools to strengthen facilitation and learner participation.

Keywords: case facilitation, active learning and student engagement
