Kathi

Our course is called Management & Organizational Behavior. Some of us teach it as a management course with an expanded leadership section and some of us teach it as an OB course with a little bit about management functions.

At my last school (NKU), it was an OB course but the course title was Behavior in Organizations.

We actually don't have an OB course in the Business Core, only in the Management major. The Core course is Introduction to Management & Organizations. For Business students, it is part of our Integrated Business Cluster and has a much higher emphasis on teamwork and leaves out things like History of Mgt, Operations, and a few other topics. A similar course done as a service course for non-business students is a traditional Intro to Mgt course (inch deep mile wide).

I also serve on the state level course equivalencies panel that looks at courses at all public universities and community colleges in Ohio. The distinction between OB and Intro to Mgt has been a big challenge. The state standards muddle the two terribly so that neither an Intro to Mgt nor an Intro to OB course really matches the learning outcomes that a committee from the whole breadth of different types of institutions generated (remember the definition of a camel as a horse designed by a committee?)

Hi Kathi,

Our course is still called Organizational Behavior. Also, I think he focus area in most doctoral programs is still HR/OB.

At a prior institution where they combined Principles of Management and OB, it was called Management and Organizations.

Take care!

Hello colleagues,

We are in the process of updating our Business Core curriculum and I am seeking examples of what you are calling your Organizational Behavior course?

My Dean thinks the "Organizational Behavior" title is outdated. I kind of agree but not sure what else to call this course. Most textbooks are still titled Organizational Behavior and I don't want to lose the content of organizational behavior or title it something that is not descriptive.

I'd like to get your feedback:
1. Do you call your OB course something different?
2. If your OB course is called OB.... I could make an argument that the OB title is not outdated. :-)

Thank you!!
Best, Kathi
