Assessing Student Performance in an All Online World

online student assessment

All faculty have their preferred methods of assessing performance and assigning grades. The move to online teaching has affected how most of us do that and, further, the need to assess students in multiple online classes has complicated the task significantly. Further, most of us, either explicitly or implicitly, have used grades to motivate students to do the work that we believe will improve learning. The purpose of this roundtable discussion is to share what we have learned about the pros and cons of grading and motivating students in the online environment.
