Teaching Organizational Leadership Students how to Apply Engineering Principles to Design an “Inclusive & Welcoming Workplace” in a Gender & Diversity Management Class

Diversity, Inclusion, Systems

Creating an active learning environment for gender and diversity management students is critical due to the theoretical nature of the subject. Because students arrive on campus with varying degrees of diversity, beliefs, and biases, experiential learning allows them to practice and apply concepts they are learning about. This session will describe gender and diversity management pedagogy, introduce participants to a systems engineering methodology called Collective System Design (CSD), and demonstrate how students used CSD in the classroom to design an inclusive and welcoming workplace, a system that considers both “what is needed” and “how it will be achieved”.
