Abstract: The faculty role includes teaching, research/professional development, and service. Oftentimes, advising is also included as part of the expected duties. Yet, the role of advisor is one that is frequently taken-for-granted. The goal of this workshop is to develop attendees’ abilities to navigate the pitfalls associated with advising. As such, we plan to provide an advising workshop that addresses some of our best practices for each stage of the advising process, including before, during, and after meeting with students.
