United States Coast Guard Academy Faculty Explore the Challenges of Collaborative Teaching in a Military Leadership Program

Abstract: This paper discusses the efforts of military and non-military faculty at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to ensure faculty development, consistency in curriculum, and student engagement in experiential learning activities across six sections of Organizational Behavior and Leadership. Highlights include the benefits of knowledge sharing, peer-to-peer mentoring, and the inclusion of diverse perspectives as experienced by three faculty members: an active-duty instructor, a former active-duty and current institute director, and a civilian lecturer. The purpose is to further interest in understanding collaborative faculty behaviors that may improve teaching, curriculum, and faculty development, particularly as these relate to uniformed services environments.
